JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (1987) is a tale about the legacy of the Joestar family, a long lineage of genius men and women who fight against different forms of supernatural enemies. The story spans generations and even different dimensions. Hirohiko Araki has said the ever changing characters, powers and settings have kept the story from being stale and has allowed for his art to develop. The following gag (or joke) of the comic has been that the character’s names could always be shortened down to “JoJo”, usually due to most members of the family notably having the last name “Joestar”. The manga has always taken reference from different popular culture narratives, with earlier work being inspired by classical vampire and zombie novel horror to later work being based around westerns and Noir esq detective stories. The story currently has eight parts in this order.
